Abstract
Organic thiol compounds including aromatic, aliphatic, and diester ether compounds containing sulfhydryl groups are disclosed which can be utilized to plasticize and/or stabilize halogen-containing polymer compositions, especially poly(vinyl chloride) compositions. Compounds of the present invention are utilized in polymers normally susceptible to deterioration and color change, which typically occurs during processing of the polymer or exposure to certain environments.

A polymer composition comprising:
- a chlorine-containing or bromine-containing polymer;
- and
- a heat stabilizer component consisting of a) an organic thiol compound having the formula:
- wherein R8 and R9, independently, are straight chain or branched alkylidenes having from 1 to about 15 carbon atoms, or an aromatic or substituted aromatic having from about 6 to about 15 carbon atoms, wherein R10 and R11, independently, are straight chain or branched alkyl groups having from 1 to about 15 carbon atoms, or an aromatic or a substituted aromatic having from about 6 to about 15 carbon atoms, wherein A and B, independently, are an integer from 0 1 to about 6, and wherein D is an integer from 1 to about 10 and b) optionally epoxidized soybean oil.
