Abstract
An expandable stent has a porous tubular wall with a longitudinal axis. The porous tubular wall has a plurality of butterfly cells disposed in a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the tubular wall, each butterfly cell having two symmetrical wing portions, an abdomen portion, and an antenna portion. The abdomen portion and the antenna portion have different shapes. Preferably, each cell includes a plurality of curved portions and no straight portions. Also, the cells of one row of cells are preferably interlocked with the cells of an adjacent row of cells, each cell having at least six three-point connections. Preferably, each cell has substantially the same shape.

An expandable stent comprising:
- a porous tubular wall having a longitudinal axis;
- and
- the porous tubular wall comprising a plurality of butterfly cells disposed in a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the tubular wall, each butterfly cell having two symmetrical wing portions, an abdomen portion, and an antenna portion, the abdomen portion and the antenna portion having different shapes, wherein each butterfly cell has at least six three-point connections.
An unexpanded stent comprising:
- a porous tubular wall having a longitudinal axis;
- and
- the porous tubular wall comprising at least four rows of identical cells interlocked with respect to each other in a direction substantially perpendicular to the tubular wall longitudinal axis, each cell comprising a plurality of curved portions and no straight portions, wherein each cell has at least six three-point connections.
A stent comprising:
- a porous tubular wall having a longitudinal axis;
- and
- the porous tubular wall having a plurality of identical cells disposed in more than three adjacent rows arrayed in a direction substantially perpendicular to the porous tubular wall longitudinal axis, the cells of one row of cells being interlocked with the cells of an adjacent row of cells, each cell having at least six three-point connections, wherein each cell has a butterfly shape including two wing portions, an abdomen portion, and an antenna portion, the abdomen portion and the antenna portion having different shapes.
A stent comprising:
- a porous tubular wall having a longitudinal axis;
- and
- the porous tubular wall having a plurality of identical cells disposed in more than three adjacent rows arrayed in a direction substantially perpendicular to the porous tubular wall longitudinal axis, the cells of one row of cells being interlocked with the cells of an adjacent row of cells, each cell having at least six three-point connections, wherein each cell has a butterfly shape including two wing portions, an abdomen portion, and an antenna portion, wherein the abdomen portion comprises two outwardly-extending curved sections.
An expandable stent comprising:
- a porous tubular wall having a longitudinal axis;
- and
- the porous tubular wall having at least four rows of cells disposed in a direction substantially orthogonal to the porous tubular wall longitudinal axis, the cells of one row of cells interlocking with the cells of an adjacent row of cells, each cell having at least six outwardly-extending curved sections, each cell of said four rows of cells having the same shape, wherein each cell has a butterfly shape including two wing portions, an abdomen portion, and an antenna portion, the abdomen portion and the antenna portion having different shapes.
An expandable stent comprising:
- a porous tubular wall having a longitudinal axis;
- and
- the porous tubular wall having at least four rows of cells disposed in a direction substantially orthogonal to the porous tubular wall longitudinal axis, the cells of one row of cells interlocking with the cells of an adjacent row of cells, each cell having at least six outwardly-extending curved sections, each cell of said four rows of cells having the same shape,
- wherein each cell has a butterfly shape including two wing portions, an abdomen portion, and an antenna portion, wherein the abdomen portion comprises two outwardly-extending curved sections.
An expandable stent comprising:
