## Abstract

A canola cultivar designated 46A42, plants and seeds of the 46A42 canola cultivar, methods for producing a canola plant produced by crossing the 46A42 cultivar with itself or with another canola plant, and hybrid canola seeds and plants produced by crossing the 46A42 cultivar with another canola line or plant are provided.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A canola seed designated 46A42, representative seed of said canola variety 46A42 having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-5335.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

A canola plant, or parts thereof, produced by growing the seed of claim 1.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The canola plant part of claim 2 wherein said part is pollen.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The canola plant part of claim 2 wherein said part in an ovule.

### Claim 5 (depends on 2)

A tissue culture of protoplasts or regenerable cells from the plant of claim 2.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

A tissue culture according to claim 5, the cells or protoplasts of the tissue culture being of a tissue selected from the group consisting of: leaf, pollen, cotyledon, hypocotyl, embryos, root, pod, flower, shoot and stalk.

### Claim 7 (depends on 5)

A canola plant regenerated from the tissie culture of claim 5, having all the morphological and physiological characteristics of canola variety 46A42, representative seed of said canola variety 46A42 having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-5335.

### Claim 8 (depends on 2)

A method for producing a first generation hybrid canola seed comprising: crossing the plant of claim 2 with a different inbred parent canola plant, and harvesting the resultant first generation hybrid canola seed.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8 for producing a first generation hybrid canola seed wherein the female parent is designated 46A42 representative seed of said canola variety 46A42 having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-5535.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8 for producing a first generation hybrid canola seed wherein the male parent is designated 46A42, representative seed of said canola variety 46A42 having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-5335.

### Claim 11 (depends on 2)

A canola plant, or parts thereof, having all the physiological and morphological characteristics of the plant of claim 2.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The canola plant part of claim 11 wherein said part is pollen.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

The canola plant part of claim 11 wherein said part is an ovule.

### Claim 14 (depends on 11)

A tissue culture of protaplasts or regenerable cells from the plant of claim 11.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

A tissue culture according to claim 14, the cells or protaplasts of the tissue culture being of a tissue selected from the group consisting of: leaf pollen, cotyledon, hypocotyl, embryos, root, pod flower, shoot and stalk.

### Claim 16 (depends on 11)

A canola plant regenerated from the tissue culture of claim 11, having all the morphological and physiological characteristics of canola variety 46A42, representative seed of said canola variety 46A42 having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-5335.

### Claim 17 (depends on 11)

A method for producing a first generation hybrid canola seed comprising: crossing the plant of claim 11 with a different inbred canola plant, and harvesting the resultant first generation hybrid canola seed.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The method of claim 17 for producing a first generation hybrid canola seed wherein the different inbred canola plant is a female parent.

### Claim 19 (depends on 17)

The method of claim 17 for producing a first generation hybrid canola seed wherein the different inbred canola plant is a male parent.

### Claim 20

A method for producing a first generation (F1) canola variety progency canola plant, comprising:
(a) crossing canola variety 46A42, representative seed of said canola variety 46A42 having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-5535 with a second canola plant to yield progeny canola seed; and
(b) growing said progeny canola seed, under plant growth conditions, to yield said first generation (F1) canola variety 46A42 progeny canola plant.

### Claim 21 (depends on 2)

A method for producing a male sterile canola line comprising:
crossing the canola plant of claim 2 with a second canola plant to yield progeny canola seed, wherein the second canola plant has cytoplasmic male sterility; and
growing said progeny canola seed to yield an F1 male sterile canola plant.
