Abstract
Emission abatement system. The system includes a source of emissions and a catalyst for receiving the emissions. Suitable catalysts are absorber catalysts and selective catalytic reduction catalysts. A plasma fuel converter generates a reducing gas from a fuel source and is connected to deliver the reducing gas into contact with the absorber catalyst for regenerating the catalyst. A preferred reducing gas is a hydrogen rich gas and a preferred plasma fuel converter is a plasmatron. It is also preferred that the absorber catalyst be adapted for absorbing NOx.
Claims14
An emission abatement system, comprising:
- a source of emissions;
- a particulate trap adapted to receive said emissions from said source and to collect particulates;
- a fuel converter for generating a hydrogen-rich gas from a fuel source and connected to deliver the hydrogen-rich gas to regenerate the particulate trap;
- and
- at least one catalyst positioned between said fuel converter and said particulate trap.
A method for emission abatement, comprising the steps of:
- positioning a fuel converter to receive emissions from a source of emissions;
- introducing emissions into a particulate trap;
- collecting particulates in said particulate trap;
- regenerating said particulate trap by delivering hydrogen-rich gas from a fuel converter;
- and
- positioning at least one catalyst between said fuel converter and said particulate trap.
The method of c1aim 7, wherein the regenerating step is catalytic.
