A compound having the formula (XXIII):
- wherein R1′ is hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkyl-alkyl, optionally substituted aralkyl or aryl;
- R2 is hydrogen or alkyl;
- and R14 is hydrogen or a carboxyl-protecting group.
A compound having the formula (XXV):
- wherein A is alkylene, alkenylene or alkynylene;
- R1′ is hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkyl-alkyl, optionally substituted aralkyl or aryl;
- R2 is hydrogen or alkyl;
- R14 is hydrogen or carboxyl-protecting group;
- and X3 is chlorine or bromine.
