Abstract
A data surge protection module can be added to data and control networks not having such surge protection. The use of quick connect/disconnect connectors allows for the rapid installation and/or replacement of such modules. A built-in ground plate and a braided low impedance conductor offer alternative grounding for the module. The module employs two or more diode steering bridges and uses a diode as a surge suppression element.
Claims11
A data surge protection module for protecting data communication circuits from transient voltage surges coupled to an enclosure, comprising:
- a housing;
- a printed circuit board having circuit components for conducting a voltage surge located within said housing;
- a rigid ground terminal plate coupled at a first end to said printed circuit board and adapted to be coupled at a second end to a grounding stud on the enclosure;
- and
- a flexible low impedance alternate ground wire coupled at a first (one) end to said printed circuit board and adapted to be coupled at a second (the other) end to a grounding stud on the enclosure, wherein said ground terminal plate and said low impedance ground wire are complementary ground connects, and (whereby) at least (one of) said ground terminal plate or said low impedance ground wire is coupled to said groundling stud on the enclosure to provide a ground for said data surge protection module.
