Abstract
A method of preparing a conductive polymeric film, includes providing a liquid crystal phase comprising a plurality of hydrophobic cores, the phase on a substrate, introducing a hydrophobic component to the phase, the component a conductive polymer precursor, and applying an electric potential across the liquid crystal phase, the potential sufficient to polymerize the said precursor.
Claims24
A method of preparing a conductive polymeric film, said method comprising:
- providing a liquid crystal phase comprising a plurality of hydrophobic cores, said phase on a substrate;
- introducing a hydrophobic component to said phase, said component a conductive polymer precursor;
- and
- applying an electric potential across said liquid crystal phase, said potential sufficient to polymerize the said precursor.
A method of using liquid crystal domains to align an organic polymeric film, said method comprising:
- providing on a substrate a phase of ordered liquid crystal domains, each said domain having a hydrophobic core aligned with said substrate;
- introducing a hydrophobic monomer to said phase;
- and
- applying a potential across said phase substantially parallel to said liquid crystal domains to provide a polymer aligned therewith.
An organic semiconductor polythiophene film having a morphology exhibiting a birefringent texture under polarized light, said film obtained by providing a gel phase of a cylindrical amphiphilic liquid crystals, said phase including thiophene monomers;
- and
- applying a potential across said phase substantially parallel to said cylindrical liquid crystals, said film texture obtained from said liquid crystals.
