Abstract
The present invention relates to the use of native hepoxilins and of hepoxilin analogs for the regulation of insulin secretion and to the use of hepoxilin analogs as anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic and anti-thrombotic compounds.

A method for stimulating insulin secretion in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of a hepoxilin or of a compound of the formula
- wherein X=O, CH2, S or NH;
- R1=lower alkyl or alkene;
- lower alcohol (C1 to C22), saturated or unsaturated;
- or
- —CH2CH═CH—(CH2)3—COR″ wherein R″=OH or O—lower alkyl or alkene;
- R2=OH, NH2, SH, OPO3H, lower alkyl or alkene or O—lower alkyl or alkene;
- and
- R3=lower alkyl or alkene or
- —CH2—CH═CH—(CH2)4—R′″ wherein R′″=CH3, CH2OH or CH2
- —O—lower alkyl or alkene or
- wherein X, R2 and R3 are as in formula I and R4 =lower alkyl or alkene;
- lower alcohol (C1 to C22), saturated or unsaturated;
- or
- —CH═CH—CH2—CH ═CH—(CH2)3—COR″
- wherein R″=OH or O—lower alkyl or alkene.

A method for inhibiting the development of diabetes in a mammal disposed to developing diabetes comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of a compound of the formula
