Abstract
An auger for a combine includes a central tube having an outer cylindrical surface and having a first diameter; flighting extends from the outer surface of the central tube. The flighting has an outer edge. An auger diameter is defined as the diameter extending from a top edge of the flighting to the bottom edge of the flighting. The first diameter is approximately 25 percent of the outer diameter.

In a harvester having a crop receiving opening allowing crops to be received by the harvester for processing, the improvement comprising:
- an elongated, transversely extending, rotatable member in front of the opening;
- and
- helical flighting on the member,
- said helical flighting including as a part thereof a non-smooth, helically extending, crop-gripping outer edge disposed for feeding crops transversely of the member and into the opening when the member is rotated about its longitudinal axis.
