Abstract
The invention relates to filtration media having nanocrystals of metal oxides, such as zinc oxide or titanium oxide or mixtures thereof, encapsulated in or impregnated into a binder matrix.
Claims15
A filtration media for drinking water, comprising:
- metal oxide nanocrystals;
- particles of activated carbon;
- and
- a polymeric binder
- wherein the polymeric binder is present in sufficient amount to adhere the activated carbon particles to each other, and wherein the metal oxide nanocrystals are dispersed in the polymeric binder.

A filtration media in the form of a block, comprising:
- nanocrystals of zinc oxide or titanium oxide or a mixture thereof in an amount of about 0.5 wt %, based on the total weight of the filtration media;
- activated carbon;
- a polymeric binder.
