Abstract
An electret is described that includes a plasma surface modified polymeric article having plasma surface fluorination produced by fluorinating the polymeric article.
Claims25
A method of making an electret, said method comprising
- fluorinating a nonwoven web, said fluorinating comprising exposing said web to an electric discharge in the form of a plasma comprising fluorine containing species for a period sufficient to modify the surface of the web such that the surface includes fluorine moieties, and
- charging the fluorinated web to impart an electret charge to the web,
- the resulting electret, when tested according to the Initial DOP Penetration Test and the DOP Loading Test, exhibiting a DOP penetration of less than 20% for a DOP load from 0.05 grams to 0.2 grams.
