Abstract
Vinylidene fluoride polymers are produced by using ethane as a chain transfer agent in the emulsion polymerization process. Vinylidene fluoride homopolymers made by the process have a significantly reduced tendency to generate cavities at high temperatures and a greater resistance to discoloration at high temperatures.
Claims3
A thermally initiated process for the preparation of vinylidene fluoride polymers in an aqueous medium in the presence of a free radical initiator and of a chain transfer agent consisting essentially of at least about 0.05%, based on the total weight of monomers polymerized, of ethane, optionally in the presence of other fluorinated olefins.
