Abstract
This disclosure provides pharmaceutical compositions which include oil extract from plants from the Labiatae family. In particular, the compositions can be formulated by combining extracts of essential oils from plants of the Labiatae family with an organic acid or a Group I salt. It is believed that the antimicrobial activity of the pharmaceutical composition is due to the presence of organic phenols, such as isopropyl-o-cresol, in the oil extract from the plants.
Claims18
A pharmaceutical composition for treating a microbial infection in an animal comprising:
- (a) between about 1 wt % and about 20 wt % antimicrobial compound chosen from the group consisting of:
- sodium isopropyl-o-cresol, sodium isopropyl-cresol, potassium isopropyl-o-cresol, potassium isopropyl-cresol, and combinations thereof;
- and
- (b) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising:
- (a) from about 2 wt % to about 10 wt % antimicrobial compound chosen from the group consisting of:
- sodium isopropyl-o-cresol, sodium isopropyl-cresol, potassium isopropyl-o-cresol, potassium isopropyl-cresol, and combinations thereof;
- and
- (b) at least one pharmaceutically acceptable carrier chosen from the group consisting of:
- corn dextrose, corn starch, silicon dioxide, calcium carbonate, corn oil, and combinations thereof.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising:
- (a) from about 2 wt % to about 10 wt % antimicrobial compound chosen from the group consisting of:
- sodium isopropyl-o-cresol, sodium isopropyl-cresol, potassium isopropyl-o-cresol, potassium isopropyl-cresol, and combinations thereof and
- (b) at least one pharmaceutically acceptable carrier chosen from the group consisting of:
- vaselinium album, deionized water, and combinations thereof.
