Leveling pads for use with a power unit and jack stands

A leveling pad for each of the forward ends of a pair of lift arms of a power unit for use with a jack stand and for use with a lift bridge, with the power unit including a chassis having a forward end and a rearward end, a pair of parallel lift arms having upper surfaces, forward ends and rearward ends thereof with the forward ends having horizontal apertures therein, and with the rearward ends pivotally retained within the rearward end of the chassis, a pair of pivotal connecting arms acting in parallel having forward ends pivotally connected to the forward end of the chassis and having rearward ends pivotally connected near the midpoint of the respective lift arm, a hydraulic actuator mounted on the chassis and connected to the lift arms for rotating the forward ends of the lift arms upward and downward, and the lift bridge having a horizontally oriented rectangular plate with forward end rearward ends, left and right sides, top and bottom surfaces and adapted to be positioned to bridge between the forward ends of the lift arms, the leveling pad comprising:

• a vertically oriented rectangular plate having an upper surface aligned with the upper surface of the lift arm, a forward end and a central horizontal aperture therein pivotally attached coaxial with the aperture of the respective lift arm, further including means for retaining the lift bridge on the leveling pad;
• a lever arm extending forward and downward from the forward end of the plate;
• and
• a connecting rod interconnecting the end of the lever arm to a point on the pivotal connecting arm, so that as the angle between the lift arm and the connecting arm increases, the angle between the lift arm and the lever arm decreases so that the upper surface of the leveling member remains horizontal during the elevation of the lift arm.

A pair of leveling pads for use with a jack stand power unit that is convertible for use as a lifting jack, with the power unit including a generally rectangular chassis having a forward end and a rearward end;

• a pair of parallel lift arms interconnected near the midpoints thereof by a lateral pivot push bar, and having upper surfaces, forward ends and rearward ends thereof with the forward ends having horizontal apertures therein, and with the rearward ends pivotally retained within the rearward end of the chassis, a pair of connecting arms acting in parallel having forward ends pivotally connected to the forward end of the chassis and having rearward ends pivotally connected near the midpoint of the respective lift arm coaxial with the push bar, a hydraulic actuator mounted on the chassis having a forward end connected to the push bar and adapted to elevate the forward ends of the lift arms;
• a lift bridge comprising a horizontally oriented rectangular plate having forward end rearward ends, left and right sides, top and bottom surfaces and adapted to be positioned to bridge between the forward ends of the lift arms, and further adapted to be positioned away from the forward ends of the lift arms, the leveling pads comprising:
• a vertically oriented rectangular plate having an upper surface aligned with the upper surface of the lift arm, a forward end and a central horizontal aperture therein pivotally attached coaxial with the aperture of the respective lift arm;
• a guide flange extending horizontally from the upper surface thereof and adapted to engage the respective side of the lift bridge;
• a lever arm extending forward and downward from the forward end of the plate, and having a length of about half the length of the pivotal connecting arm;
• and
• a connecting rod having a length of about half the length of the lift arm and interconnecting the end of the lever arm to a point on the pivotal connecting arm, so that as the angle between the forward end of the lift arm and the connecting arm increases, the angle between the forward end of the lift arm and the lever arm decreases so that the upper surface of the leveling member remains horizontal during the elevation of the lift arm.
