Abstract
A process for the manufacture of copolymers of formaldehyde and diphenyl oxide and a carboxylic acid uses and acid with a pKa in the range of 1.2 to 3 as the catalyst.

A process for the manufacture of a copolymer of the monomers diphenyl oxide, formaldehyde or paraformaldehyde, and an unsaturated carboxylic or dicarboxylic acid, comprising reacting the monomers in the presence of an acid catalyst with a pKa within the range of 1.2 to 3.0.
