Abstract
This invention is a method for preventing or treating postoperative ileus comprising administering a vasopressin antagonist such as a compound of Formula (1), where R1, R2, and R3 include hydrogen, halo, alkyl, and alkoxy; R and R5 are hydrogen or alkyl; R4 is hydrogen, phenyl, or substituted phenyl, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.

A method for treating postoperative ileus in a mammal who has undergone an abdominal surgery comprising administering an effective amount of conivaptan.
