Abstract
A lubricating oil composition suitable for a two-stroke cross-head marine diesel engine. The lubricating oil composition comprises a base oil and an oil-soluble overbased metal detergent additive in the form of a complex wherein the basic material of the detergent is stabilized by more than one surfactant.
Claims11
A system lubricating oil composition for a two-stroke cross-head marine compression ignited engine said composition having a TBN from about 2 to about 8 and comprising, or being made by admixing:
- (A) a base stock of lubricating viscosity, in a major amount;
- and
- (B) an oil-soluble overbased metal detergent additive, in a minor amount, in the form of a complex wherein the basic material of the detergent is stabilised by more than one surfactant.
A method of improving the oxidation control of a two-stroke cross-head marine compression-ignited engine system lubricant having a TBN of from about 2 to about 8, which comprises using, as a detergent in the lubricant, an oil-soluble overbased metal detergent additive in the form of a complex wherein the basic material of the detergent is stabilised by more than one surfactant.
