Abstract
The invention is directed to a fire door having a core, stiles, and rails formed of resin bonded exfoliated vermiculite, wherein the core has a density which exceeds that of the stiles and rails. The invention is also directed to such a fire door additionally having an intumescent material placed on some or all of the exposed edges of the stiles and rails.
Claims47
A fire door, comprising:
- a) a generally rectangular core formed of resin bonded exfoliated vermiculite having a predetermined density;
- and
- b) a pair of stiles secured to and extending along opposed edges of said core and a pair of rail's secured to and extending along opposed edges of said core, said stiles and said rails formed of resin bonded exfoliated vermiculite having a density exceeding the density of said core.
A fire door comprising:
- a) at least a first rectangular core formed of resin bonded exfoliated vermiculite, said core having first and second major surfaces and four peripheral edges;
- b) a recess formed in and extending along each of said edges;
- c) a pair of stiles and a pair of rails, each of said stiles and said rails formed from resin bonded exfoliated vermiculite and each of said stiles and said rails has a tenon extending therefrom;
- and
- d) each of said tenons adhesively secured within an associated one of said recesses.
2 more elements
Method of assembling a fire door, comprising the steps of:
- a) providing a generally rectangular door core formed from resin bonded exfoliated vermiculite;
- b) providing a pair of rails and a pair of stiles formed from resin bonded exfoliated vermiculate;
- c) adhesively securing the stiles and rails to the peripheral edges of the core.
Method of assembling a fire door, comprising the steps of:
- a) providing a generally rectangular door core formed from resin bonded exfoliated vermiculite;
- b) providing a pair of rails and a pair of stiles formed from resin bonded exfoliated vermiculate, the stiles and rails each having an exposed edge;
- c) adhesively securing the stiles and rails to the peripheral edges of the core so that the grooves are exteriorly disposed;
- d) providing encapsulate intumescent material;
- and
- e) securing the encapsulated material upon each of said stile exposed edges and upon at least one of said rail exposed edges.
3 more elements
A fire door, comprising:
- a) a generally rectangular core formed of resin bonded exfoliated vermiculite, said core having a predetermined moisture content;
- and
- b) a pair of stiles secured to and extending along opposed edges of said core and a pair of rails secured to and extending along opposed edges of said core, said stiles and said rails formed of resin bonded exfoliated vermiculite, said stiles and said rails having a moisture content differing from the moisture content of said core.
A fire door, comprising:
- a) a generally rectangular core formed of resin bonded exfoliated vermiculite, said core having a predetermined amount of chemically bound water;
- and
- b) a pair of stiles secured to and extending along opposed edges of said core and a pair of rails secured to and extending along opposed edges of said core, said stiles and said rails formed of resin bonded exfoliated vermiculite, said stiles and said rails having an amount of chemically bound water differing from the chemically bound water of said core.
