Abstract
An aqueous binder composition containing a urea-formaldehyde resin modified with an additive comprising (1) styrene acrylic acid or styrene acrylate, (2) an adduct of styrene, maleic anhydride, and an acrylic acid or acrylate or (3) a physical mixture of a styrene acrylic acid or styrene-acrylate copolymer and a styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer. The resulting binder is used in the preparation of fiber mats.
Claims9
An aqueous binder composition for use in making fiber mats comprising as a major component a thermosetting urea-formaldehyde resin and as a minor component a water-soluble additive selected from the group consisting of (1) a polymer of styrene acrylic acid or styrene acrylate, (2)a polymer of styrene, maleic anhydride, and an acrylic-acid or acrylate and (3) a physical mixture of a styrene acrylic acid or styrene-acrylate copolymer and a styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer.
