Abstract
Methyl propyl ketone peroxide formulations are claimed that can be safely handled at ambient temperature, are storage stable, and give fast curing rates of unsaturated polyester resins particularly when accelerated with a complex of two different metals. The claimed products are particularly suited for thin articles and coating such as suited for use in gel coat systems. The pure ketone peroxides consist of more than 60% by weight of type-4 methyl propyl ketone peroxide and used as formulations containing sufficient amount of a non-aqueous phlegmatizer.
Claims11
Methyl propyl ketone peroxide formulations comprising more than 60% by weight of type-4 methyl propyl ketone peroxide (calculated as the weight of active oxygen of the type-4 methyl propyl ketone peroxide over the weight of the total active oxygen of all methyl propyl ketone peroxides), more than 1% by weight of type-3 methyl propyl ketone peroxide (calculated as the weight of active oxygen of the type-3 methyl propyl ketone peroxide over the weight of total active oxygen of all methyl propyl ketone peroxides) and a non-aqueous phlegmatizer in an amount such that the Pressure Vessel Test and the Koenen test show safe handling and transport at temperatures of 0-50° C.
