A liquid crystal composition comprising component I consisting of at least one compound represented by formula (I) and component II consisting at least one compound selected from a group of compounds represented by formulas (II-1) to (II-7): wherein each symbol in the formulas (I) to (II-7) is represented in the specification.

A liquid crystal composition comprising component I that consists of at least one compound represented by formula (I), and component II that consists of at least one compound selected from a group of compounds represented by formulas (II-1) to (II-7).
- wherein R1, R2, R3, and R4 each independently represent alkyl, alkoxy or alkoxymethyl having 1 to 10 carbon, or alkenyl having 2 to 10 carbon;
- Z1 and Z2 each independently represent a single bond or —C2H4—;
- Z3 represents a single bond, —C2H4— or —COO—;
- Z4 represents a single bond, —C2H4— or —CH═CH—;
- Z5 represents a single bond or —C2H4—;
- X1 represents fluorine, chlorine, CF3, OCF2H, or OCF3;
- and Y1 and y2 each independently represent hydrogen or fluorine.
