Abstract
The present invention provides a tunable ferro-electric multiplexer for use in CDMA communication devices. Tunable ferro-electric capacitors are used to tune the resonant frequencies of several resonators used in a multiplexer and to tune the frequency response shape of the multiplexer. A low loss ferro-electric material and configuration is provided. The tunable multiplexer is smaller and has less insertion loss than a fixed tuned multiplexer.

A tunable multiplexer comprising:
- a first control signal generator for generating a first control signal;
- a first capacitor;
- a first resonator;
- the first capacitor and the first resonator configured as a first electromagnetic signal filter having a first resonant frequency;
- a first ferro-electric material portion positioned proximate the first capacitor for adjusting, responsive to the first control signal, the capacitance of the first capacitor for adjusting the first resonant frequency;
- a second control signal generator for generating a second control signal;
- a second capacitor;
- a second resonator;
- the second capacitor and the second resonator configured as a second electromagnetic signal filter having a second resonant frequency;
- a second ferro-electric material portion positioned proximate the second capacitor for adjusting, responsive to the second control signal, the capacitance of the second capacitor for adjusting the second resonant frequency;
- wherein a quality factor of each capacitor, when operated in a temperature range between about −50 degrees Celsius and 100 degrees Celsius, is greater than about 80.
