Abstract
The invention provides methods of altering organ mass, controlling fertility and enhancing asexual reproduction in plants through the modulation of plant growth and cell proliferation. The methods involve producing transgenic plants comprising a recombinant expression cassette containing an ANT nucleic acid linked to a plant promoter.
Claims23
An isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising a polynucleotide encoding a polypeptide at least 90% identical to SEQ ID NO:5 as determined using a BLAST algorithm, wherein the polypeptide comprises two AP2 domains.
An expression cassette comprising a plant promoter operably linked to a heterologous polynucleotide encoding a polypeptide at least 90% identical to SEQ ID NO:5 as determined using a BLAST algorithm, wherein the polypeptide comprises two AP2 domains.
A plant comprising a plant promoter operably linked to a heterologous polynucleotide encoding a polypeptide at least 90% identical to SEQ ID NO:5 as determined using a BLAST algorithm, wherein the polypeptide comprises two AP2 domains.
A method of asexually reproducing a plant, the method comprising introducing into a plant cell or tissue an expression cassette comprising a plant promoter operably linked to a polynucleotide encoding a polypeptide at least 90% identical to SEQ ID NO:5 as determined using a BLAST algorithm, wherein the polypeptide comprises two AP2 domains;
- and
- selecting a plant reproduced from the plant cell or tissue.
A method of reducing fertility in a plant, the method comprising
- introducing into the plant an expression cassette comprising a plant promoter operably linked to a polynucleotide encoding apolypeptide at least 90% identical to SEQ ID NO:5 as determined using a BLAST algorithm, wherein the polypeptide comprises two AP2 domains;
- and
- selecting a plant with reduced fertility.
