Abstract
A peak detection circuit receives a playback signal from a magnetic storage medium and generates a peak detection signal. A shift register transmits the peak detection signal, and a pattern detection circuit is responsive to signals from the shift register to detect a first predetermined temporal pattern of peaks in the peak detection signal. A pattern correction circuit adjusts the relative timing of peaks in the peak detection signal so that the first predetermined temporal pattern of peaks in the peak detection signal is converted to a second predetermined temporal pattern of peaks in a corrected peak detection signal.

A circuit for processing a playback signal from a magnetic storage medium, said circuit comprising:
- a peak detection means for receiving the playback signal and generating a peak detection signal which indicates occurrence of peaks in the playback signal, and
- a peak shift correction circuit comprising a shift register means for transmitting said peak detection signal, a pattern detection means responsive to signals from said shift register means to detect a first predetermined temporal pattern of peaks in said peak detection signal, and a pattern correction means for adjusting relative timing of peaks in said peak detection signal so that said first predetermined temporal pattern of peaks in said peak detection signal is converted to a second predetermined temporal pattern of peaks in a corrected peak detection signal.
A playback apparatus comprising:
- a playback means for playing back a magnetic storage medium and providing a playback signal,
- a peak detection means for receiving the playback signal and generating a peak detection signal which indicates occurrence of peaks in the playback signal, and
- a peak shift correction circuit comprising a shift register means for transmitting said peak detection signal, a pattern detection means responsive to signals from said shift register means to detect a first predetermined temporal pattern of peaks in said peak detection signal, and a pattern correction means for adjusting relative timing of peaks in said peak detection signal so that said first predetermined temporal pattern of peaks in said peak detection signal is converted to a second predetermined temporal pattern of peaks in a corrected peak detection signal.
A method for processing a playback signal read from a magnetic storage medium, comprising:
- (a) generating a peak detection signal which indicates occurrence of peaks in the playback signal,
- (b) successively transmitting said peak detection signal,
- (c) examining the successively transmitted peak detection signal, and
- (d) in the event that a first predetermined temporal pattern of peaks is detected in step (c), adjusting relative timing of peaks in said peak detection signal and converting said first predetermined temporal pattern of peaks to a second predetermined temporal pattern of peaks in a corrected peak detection signal.
