Abstract
Multilayered metal oxide coated substrates are disclosed comprising a three dimensional inorganic substrate having a coating of metal oxide and a thermally associated barrier coating on at least a portion of all three dimensions thereof, produced by a unique process having particular applicability to the manufacture of tin oxide coated three dimensional substrates. Certain novel coated substrates, such as flakes, spheres and porous substrates are disclosed. The coated substrates are useful in polymer, catalysis, heating and shielding applications.

An article comprising a multilayered three dimensional inorganic particle substrate having external surfaces and shielded surfaces which are at least partially shielded by other portions of said substrate and having an inner core, an inorganic oxide barrier layer thermally associated with the external surface of said inner core and a metal oxide coating thermally associated with said inorganic oxide barrier layer, each thermally associated oxide layer being formed from oxide precursor coatings at the same thermal associating conditions, said inorganic barrier layer and metal oxide coating being on at least a portion of said same external and shielded surfaces.
An article comprising a multilayered three dimensional inorganic oxide particle substrate having external surfaces and shielded surfaces which are at least partially shielded by other portions of said substrate and having an inner core, an inorganic oxide barrier layer thermally associated with the external surface of said inner core and a metal oxide interactant coating thermally associated with said inorganic oxide barrier layer, each thermally associated oxide layer being formed from oxide precursor coatings at the same thermal associating conditions, said inorganic oxide barrier layer and metal oxide coating being on at least a portion of said same external and shielded surfaces.
An article comprising a multilayered three dimensional inorganic oxide particle substrate having external surfaces and shielded surfaces which are at least partially shielded by other portions of said substrate and having an inner core, a crystalline inorganic oxide barrier layer thermally associated with the external surface of said inner core and a metal oxide interactant coating thermally associated with said inorganic oxide barrier layer, each thermally associated oxide layer being formed from oxide precursor coatings at the same thermal association conditions, said inorganic oxide barrier layer and metal oxide coating being on at least a portion of said same external and shielded surfaces.
