Abstract
A system for adjusting the color of a light source comprises a first polarizer to polarize the light source, a fixed retarder with its optical axis at a first angle to the polarized light, an electronically variable retarder with its optical axis at a second angle to the polarized light and a second polarizer to polarize the resultant light. This light source may be used where light of adjustable color is needed, for example in a theatrical spotlight or a liquid crystal projection system.
Claims7
A system for adjusting a color of a light source along an illumination path, comprising:
- first integrator plate positioned along the illumination path;
- a first polarizer positioned along the illumination path downstream from said first integrator plate, said first polarizer to polarize the light source
- a fixed retarder positioned along the illumination path downstream from said first integrator plate, said fixed retarder having a first optical axis at a first angle to the illumination path
- an electronically variable retarder positioned along the illumination path downstream from said first integrator plate, said electronically variable retarder having a second optical axis at a second angle to the illumination path;
- and
- a second polarizer positioned along the illumination path downstream from said first integrator plate, said second polarizer to polarize the polarized light;
- and
- a second integrator plate positioned along the illumination path downstream from said first integrator plate.
