A biopsy device which is compatible for use with a magnetic resonance imaging machine. The device includes a non-metallic elongated substantially tubular needle having a distal end for insertion within tissue, a proximal end, and a longitudinal axis therebetween. The needle includes right and left members on either side of the longitudinal axis, where the right and left members each have upper and lower ends including a series of alternating male and female portions.
