Abstract
A patient transfer assembly using the movement of a structure as a source of power for moving a sheet across a structure having a transfer surface, a stationary base and a movable platform. The patient transfer assembly includes a gripper adapted for attached to the sheet on the transfer surface and a cable coupled to the gripper and entrained around a guide pulley fixed relative to the movable platform. When the movable platform moves from one position to a second position, the cable pulls the gripper thereby pulling the sheet and moving the patient. The patient transfer assembly may also include a second cable and drive shaft to assist in moving the patient as well as a trapeze to assist in rotating or lifting the patient.
Claims9
A gripper system for engaging a sheet to be moved by a patient positioning assembly, the gripper system comprising:
- a cable having a fixed end operatively coupled to the patient positioning assembly and a free end;
- a gripper having a bracket defining a pinch surface, a first cable receiving opening positioned relatively closer to the pinch surface, and a second cable receiving opening positioned relatively farther from the pinch surface;
- and
- a quick release engagement between the cable and the gripper, in which the free end of the cable is inserted through the second cable receiving opening and back through the first cable receiving opening so that an intermediate portion of the cable applies a pinch load which pushes the cable free end against the pinch surface as the patient transfer assembly applies a pulling force to the cable in a first direction with respect to the gripper, the pinch load dissipating when the pulling force is applied to the cable in a second direction with respect to the gripper.
A gripper system for engaging a sheet to be moved by a patient positioning assembly adapted to generate a pulling force, the gripper system comprising:
- first and second cables, each cable having a fixed end operatively coupled to the patient positioning assembly and a free end;
- first and second brackets, each bracket defining a grip portion and having a connection end for releasably receiving the free end of a respective cable so that the first and second brackets are freely positionable along the first and second cables, respectively;
- and
- a cross-bar freely positionable with respect to the sheet and adapted to be wrapped by the sheet, the cross-bar being sized to closely fit within the grip portions of the first and second brackets;
- wherein the freely positionable connection ends allow positions of the first and second brackets on the respective first and second cables to be adjusted, thereby to create an initial tension in the first and second cables prior to operation of the patient positioning assembly.
