Abstract
A novel, cost effective optical filter is employed for photosensors used in ultraviolet-based water purification systems. Optically tuned to specifically eliminate the non-germicidal wavelength polychromatic emissions from mercury lamps, this unique optical filter approach significantly reduces the cost in manufacturing reliable water purification systems employing ultraviolet light.
Claims8
A method for forming an optical filter, the method comprising the steps of:
- depositing an optical coating layer on at least one surface of a substrate, wherein the optical filter has an optical transmittance of at least about 40% at a wavelength of 254 nm and optical transmittance of no greater than 5% for wavelengths of 313 nm, 365 nm, 405 nm, 436 nm, 546 nm, 579 nm, 1015 nm and 1140 nm.
