Abstract
The invention provides cell-permeable peptides that bind to JNK proteins and inhibit JNK-mediated effects in JNK-expressing cells.

A peptide less than 50 amino acids in length, wherein the peptide comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:6 and inhibits c-jun amino terminal kinase (JNK) phosphorylation of a JNK targeted transcription factor selected from the group consisting of c-Jun, ATF2, and Elk1.
A chimeric peptide less than 50 amino acids in length comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:3 and SEQ ID NO:8 wherein said peptide inhibits c-jun amino terminal kinase (JNK) phosphorylation of a JNK targeted transcription factor selected from the group consisting of c-Jun, ATF2, and Elk1.
