Abstract
Methods for orienting fibers and an apparatus for orienting fibers are provided for the fabrication of improved thin abrasive wheels utilizing uniform non-woven fiber reinforcement discs. The wheels are more resistant to hub push-out failure during grinding than wheels reinforced with woven fiber cloth.
Claims4
A non-woven fiber reinforced thin abrasive wheel having a central mounting hole and a circular periphery, comprising abrasive grain and bond materials and at least one non-woven fiber reinforcement disc extending from the central mounting hole to the circular periphery of the abrasive wheel, wherein the reinforcement disc comprises a first parallel fiber array and, directly adjacent to the first parallel fiber array, at least one additional parallel fiber array oriented in a direction from about 45 degrees to about 135 degrees relative to the first parallel fiber array.
