Abstract
A method for manipulating the production of flavonoids in tomatoes by expressing genes encoding chalcone isomerase, compositions for use in such a method and tomato plants having altered flavonoid levels are disclosed.
Claims13
A method for producing a tomato plant which exhibits an increased level of one or more of kaempferol, quercitin, kaempferol glycosides, or quercitin glycosides in the peel tissue of its fruit, said method comprising incorporating into a tomato plant genome one or more nucleotide sequences encoding a chalcone isomerase.
A tomato plant having one or more transgenes encoding a chalcone isomerase incorporated into its genome, wherein said plant has an increased level of one or more of kaempferol, quercitin, kaempferol glycosides, or quercitin glycosides in the peel tissue of its fruit compared to a corresponding untransformed plant.
