Polymer/dispersed modifier compositions

A solid melt-extruded blend comprising:

• a water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer;
• modifier particles dispersed throughout the water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer;
• one or more monomers grafted onto at least one of the water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer and the modifier particles;
• and
• bound water hydrogen bonded to portions of the water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer;
• wherein the modifier particles are elastomer particles.

A solid melt-extruded blend comprising:

• polyethylene oxide;
• modifier particles dispersed throughout the polyethylene oxide;
• one or more monomers grafted onto at least one of the polyethylene oxide and the modifier particles;
• and
• bound water hydrogen bonded to oxygen atoms of the polyethylene oxide;
• wherein the modifier particles are selected from a styrene butadiene polymer, a carboxylated acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene polymer, and a combination thereof;
• wherein the melt-extruded blend is a film having an elongation-at-break in the machine direction of from 150% to 1000%, an elongation-at-break in the transverse direction of from 100% to 1000%;
• and a water vapor transmission rate of from g/m2/24 hr/mil to 7000 g/m2/24 hr/mil when in an unstreached condition.
