Abstract
Processing element on a server performs a (wavelet) transform on an image held by the server storage device. Client user continuously specifies a foveal region with user input means dynamically, in realtime, which request is converted to a request for wavelet coefficients on the server corresponding to the foveal region. As the server continuously sends requested coefficients, client inverse wavelet transform means performs inverse wavelet transform on coefficients and continuously updates the image on the display.
Claims8
A server apparatus for providing a realtime visualization of at least one image by at least one client on a network, the server apparatus comprising:
- a processing arrangement which, when executing a computer program, is programmed to:
- receive, from the at least one client, image data which correspond to a selection of an arbitrary set of points to be displayed,
- generate the at least one image based on the image data so as to cause a foveation from the points, and
- update the at least one image by providing incremental spatial-distribution data for the at least one image to form a multifoveated image.
A method for providing a realtime visualization of at least one image by at least one client on a network, comprising the steps of:
- receiving, from the at least one client, image data which correspond to a selection of an arbitrary set of points to be displayed;
- generating the at least one image based on the image data so as to cause a foveation from the points;
- and
- updating the at least one image by providing incremental spatial-distribution data for the at least one image to form a multifoveated image.
