Abstract
A thermochemically stable oxidic thermal insulating material presenting phase stability, which can be used advantageously as a thermal insulating layer on parts subjected to high thermal stress, such as turbine blades or such like. The thermal insulating material can be processed by plasma spraying and consists preferably of a magnetoplumbite phase whose preferred composition is MMeAl11O19, where M is La or Nd and where Me is chosen from among zinc, the alkaline earth metals, transition metals, and rare earths, preferably from magnesium, zinc, cobalt, manganese, iron, nickel and chromium.
Claims29
A thermal insulating material comprising a first component with at least one first phase, which stoichiometrically contains (a) 1 to 80 mol-% of M2O3, (b) 0.5 to 80 mol-% MeO, and (c) the remainder comprising Al2O3, wherein
- (i) M is selected from the group formed by lanthanum, neodymium and mixtures thereof;
- (ii) Me is selected from the group formed by zinc, the alkaline earth metals, transition metals, the rare earths and mixtures thereof;
- and
- (iii) said first component comprises at least one phase selected from the group consisting of MAlO3, MeAl2O4 and MeO.
A thermal insulating material comprising:
- (a) a first component with at least one first phase, which stoichiometrically contains (i) 1 to 80 mol-% of M2O3, (ii) 0.5 to 80 mol-% MeO, and (iii) the remainder comprising Al2O3;
- wherein M is selected from the group formed by lanthanum, neodymium and mixtures thereof;
- and Me is selected from the group formed by zinc, the alkaline earth metals, transition metals, the rare earths and mixtures thereof;
- and
- (b) from about 0.001 to about 20 wt.-% of a second component insoluble in the first component as a crystallisation aid.
