Abstract
A method of producing ceramic foam wherein a precursor including an AlCl3 (Pri2O) complex is decomposed to form a mixture of a polymerizing species and liquid isopropyl chloride and the mixture is foamed. The foamed mixture is sintered and/or calcined to produce a ceramic foam.

A method of producing ceramic foam comprising decomposing a precursor comprising a AlCl3 (Pri2O) complex to form a homogeneous mixture of a polymerizing species and liquid isopropyl chloride allowing polymerization to take place until a critical polymer size is attained and phase separation occurs, foaming the mixture and sintering and/or calcining the foam to produce the ceramic foam.
