Abstract
An augmented synthetic resin is provided. That resin includes carbon nanotubes dispersed in a polymethylmethacrylate matrix. The method of preparing this synthetic resin includes the mixing and disaggregating of the carbon nanotubes.
Claims6
An augmented synthetic resin comprising non-functionalized carbon nanotubes dispersed at a weight percentage of between from about 0.00025 to about 5.0% in a polymethylmethacrylate matrix, said carbon nanotubes having diameters between from about 10 to about 50 nanometers and lengths between from about 10 to about 1000 nanometers, wherein hollow spaces in said carbon nanotubes carry pharmaceutically effective compositions selected from a group consisting of antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, chemotherapeutic agents, bone growth promoting agents and any mixtures thereof.
A dental restoration, comprising a body at least partially constructed from an augmented synthetic resin including non-functionalized carbon nanotubes provided at a weight percentage of between from about 0.00025 to about 5.0% dispersed in a biocompatible polymer of polymethylmethacrylate dissolved in a biocompatible reactive monomer of methylmethacrylate.
A dental restoration, comprising a body at least partially constructed from an augmented synthetic resin including non-functionalized carbon nanotubes provided at a weight percentage of between from about 0.043 to about 0.5% dispersed in a biocompatible polymer of polymethylmethacrylate dissolved in a biocompatible reactive monomer of methylmethacrylate.
A method of making a dental prosthesis, comprising:
- dispersing carbon nanotubes at a weight percentage of between about 0.00025 to about 5.0% in a polymethylmethacrylate matrix;
- and
- constructing the dental prosthesis from said polymethylmethacrylate matrix and dispersed carbon nanotubes.
