Analytical device for in vivo analysis in the body of a patient

Analysis device for determining an analyte in vivo through skin in the body of a patient comprising

• a measuring probe having a hollow needle adapted to be pierced into the skin and including a wall being permeable along a partial section of its length which is adapted for penetration into the skin and serves as a measuring section and with an optical fiber which runs inside the hollow needle and by which light coupled from a light source into the optical fiber is passed into the hollow needle and thus into the body when the measuring probe is pierced into the skin, wherein interstitial liquid penetrates through the wall of the hollow needle into a measuring section of the optical fiber in the hollow needle, and wherein the light transported through the optical fiber is modified in the measuring probe by direct reagent free interaction with the interstitial liquid surrounding the optical fiber within the body, said modification being characteristic of the presence of the analyte and
• a measuring and evaluation unit to measure the modification and to derive, on the basis of the modification, information concerning the presence of the analyte in the body, and wherein the modification of the light characteristic of the presence of the analyte results from an interaction with the interstitial liquid in the measuring section, wherein the wavelength of the light from the light source is between 7 μm and 13 μm.

Analysis device for determining an analyte in vivo through skin in the body of a patient comprising

• a measuring probe having a hollow needle adapted to be pierced into the skin and including a wall being permeable along a partial section of its length which is adapted for penetration into the skin and serves as a measuring section and with an optical fiber which runs inside the hollow needle and by which light coupled from a light source into the optical fiber is passed into the hollow needle and thus into the body when the measuring probe is pierced into the skin, wherein interstitial liquid penetrates through the wall of the hollow needle into a measuring section of the optical fiber in the hollow needle, and wherein the light transported through the optical fiber is modified in the measuring probe by direct reagent free interaction with the interstitial liquid surrounding the optical fiber within the body, said modification being characteristic of the presence of the analyte and
• a measuring and evaluation unit to measure the modification and to derive, on the basis of the modification, information concerning the presence of the analyte in the body, and wherein the modification of the light characteristic of the presence of the analyte results from an interaction with the interstitial liquid in the measuring section,
• wherein a heating element and a temperature measuring element are disposed on the optical fiber near a proximal end of the hollow needle.

Analysis device for determining an analyte in vivo through skin in the body of a patient comprising

• a measuring probe having a hollow needle adapted to be pierced into the skin and including a wall being permeable along a partial section of its length which is adapted for penetration into the skin and serves as a measuring section and with an optical fiber which runs inside the hollow needle and by which light coupled from a light source into the optical fiber is passed into the hollow needle and thus into the body when the measuring probe is pierced into the skin, wherein interstitial liquid penetrates through the wall of the hollow needle into a measuring section of the optical fiber in the hollow needle, and wherein the light transported through the optical fiber is modified in the measuring probe by direct reagent free interaction with the interstitial liquid surrounding the optical fiber within the body, said modification being characteristic of the presence of the analyte and
• a measuring and evaluation unit to measure the modification and to derive, on the basis of the modification, information concerning the presence of the analyte in the body, and wherein the modification of the light characteristic of the presence of the analyte results from an interaction with the interstitial liquid in the measuring section,
• wherein the measuring section of the optical fiber is jacketed by a semi-permeable membrane such that the interstitial liquid in the measuring section only gains access to a surface of the optical fiber through the membrane, the membrane is essentially separated from the surface of the optical fiber, and the separation is effected by a metallic wire travelling in the longitudinal direction within the hollow needle between the optical fiber and the membrane.

Analysis device for determining an analyte in vivo in the body of a patient, the device comprising:

• a measuring probe having
• a hollow needle having a length, a partial section of the length being adapted for penetration into the body and in which a wall of the hollow needle is permeable to interstitial liquid surrounding the hollow needle within the body, said partial section defining a measuring section of said hollow needle and
• an optical fiber including a measuring section that extends inside the hollow needle in the measuring section thereof and by which light is passed, the light transported through the optical fiber being modified in the measuring probe by direct reagent free interaction with the interstitial liquid surrounding the measuring section of the optical fiber within the measuring section of the hollow needle, said modification of the light being characteristic of the presence of the analyte and
• a measuring and evaluation unit to measure the modification and to derive, on the basis of the modification, information concerning the presence of the analyte in the body.

Analysis device for determining an analyte in vivo in the body of a patient, the device comprising:

• a measuring probe having
• a hollow needle with a measuring section having a length, a partial section of the length being adapted for penetration into the body and in which a wall of the hollow needle is permeable to interstitial liquid surrounding the hollow needle within the body and
• an optical fiber including a measuring section that extends inside the hollow needle in the measuring section thereof and by which light is passed, the light transported through the optical fiber being modified in the measuring probe by direct reagent free interaction with the interstitial liquid surrounding the measuring section of the optical fiber within the measuring section of the hollow needle, said modification of the light being characteristic of the presence of the analyte,
• a measuring and evaluation unit to measure the modification and to derive, on the basis of the modification, information concerning the presence of the analyte in the body, and
• a heating element and a temperature measuring element disposed on the optical fiber near a proximal end of the hollow needle.

Analysis device for determining an analyte in vivo in the body of a patient, the device comprising:

• a measuring probe having
• a hollow needle with a measuring section having a length, a partial section of the length being adapted for penetration into the body and in which a wall of the hollow needle is permeable to interstitial liquid surrounding the hollow needle within the body and
• an optical fiber including a measuring section that extends inside the hollow needle in the measuring section thereof and by which light is passed, the light transported through the optical fiber being modified in the measuring probe by direct reagent free interaction with the interstitial liquid surrounding the measuring section of the optical fiber within the measuring section of the hollow needle, said modification of the light being characteristic of the presence of the analyte, and
• a measuring and evaluation unit to measure the modification and to derive, on the basis of the modification, information concerning the presence of the analyte in the body,
• wherein the measuring section of the optical fiber is jacketed by a semi-permeable membrane such that the interstitial liquid in the measuring section only gains access to a surface of the optical fiber through the membrane, the membrane is essentially separated from the surface of the optical fiber, and the separation is effected by a metallic wire travelling in the longitudinal direction within the hollow needle between the optical fiber and the membrane.

Analysis device for determining an analyte in vivo in the body of a patient, the device comprising:

• a measuring probe having
• a hollow needle with a measuring section having a length, a partial section of the length being adapted for penetration into the body and in which a wall of the hollow needle is permeable to interstitial liquid surrounding the hollow needle within the body and
• an optical fiber including a measuring section that extends inside the hollow needle in the measuring section thereof and by which light is passed, the wavelength of the light being between 7 μm and 15 μm, the light transported through the optical fiber being modified in the measuring probe by direct reagent free interaction with the interstitial liquid surrounding the measuring section of the optical fiber within the measuring section of the hollow needle, said modification of the light being characteristic of the presence of the analyte and
• a measuring and evaluation unit to measure the modification and to derive, on the basis of the modification, information concerning the presence of the analyte in the body.

Analysis device for determining an analyte in vivo in the body of a patient, the device comprising:

• a measuring probe having
• a hollow needle with a measuring section having a length, a partial section of the length being adapted for penetration into the body and in which a wall of the hollow needle is permeable to interstitial liquid surrounding the hollow needle within the body and
• an optical fiber including a measuring section that extends inside the hollow needle in the measuring section thereof and by which light is passed, the wavelength of the light being between 7 μm and 15 μm, the light transported through the optical fiber being modified in the measuring probe by direct reagent free interaction with the interstitial liquid surrounding the measuring section of the optical fiber within the measuring section of the hollow needle, said modification of the light being characteristic of the presence of the analyte
• a measuring and evaluation unit to measure the modification and to derive, on the basis of the modification, information concerning the presence of the analyte in the body and
• a heating element and a temperature measuring element disposed on the optical fiber near a proximal end of the hollow needle.

Analysis device for determining an analyte in vivo in the body of a patient, the device comprising:

• a measuring probe having
• a hollow needle with a measuring section having a length, a partial section of the length being adapted for penetration into the body and in which a wall of the hollow needle is permeable to interstitial liquid surrounding the hollow needle within the body and
• an optical fiber including a measuring section running inside the hollow needle in the measuring section thereof and by which light from a light source coupled to said fiber is passed, the light transported through the optical fiber being modified in the measuring probe by direct reagent free interaction with the interstitial liquid surrounding the measuring section of the optical fiber within the measuring section of the hollow needle, said modification of the light being characteristic of the presence of the analyte and
• a measuring and evaluation unit to measure the modification and to derive, on the basis of the modification, information concerning the presence of the analyte in the body,
• wherein the optical fiber is surrounded, at least in the measuring section, by a coating.

Analysis device for determining an analyte in vivo in the body of a patient, the device comprising:

• a measuring probe having
• a hollow needle with a measuring section having a length, a partial section of the length being adapted for penetration into the body and in which a wall of the hollow needle is permeable to interstitial liquid surrounding the hollow needle within the body and
• an optical fiber including a measuring section that extends inside the hollow needle in the measuring section thereof and by which light is passed from a light source, the light transported through the optical fiber being modified in the measuring probe by direct reagent free interaction with the interstitial liquid surrounding the measuring section of the optical fiber within the measuring section of the hollow needle, said modification of the light being characteristic of the presence of the analyte and
• a measuring and evaluation unit to measure the modification and to derive, on the basis of the modification, information concerning the presence of the analyte in the body,
• wherein the interaction of the light transported in the optical fiber with the interstitial liquid is due to a penetration of an evanescent field into the interstitial liquid surrounding the circumferential surface of the optical fiber.

Analysis device for determining an analyte in vivo in the body of a patient, the device comprising:

• a measuring probe having
• a hollow needle with a measuring section having a length, a partial section of the length being adapted for penetration into the body and in which a wall of the hollow needle is permeable to interstitial liquid surrounding the hollow needle within the body and
• an optical fiber including a measuring section that extends inside the hollow needle in the measuring section thereof and by which light is passed from a light source, the light transported through the optical fiber being modified in the measuring probe by direct reagent free interaction with the interstitial liquid surrounding the measuring section of the optical fiber within the measuring section of the hollow needle, said modification of the light being characteristic of the presence of the analyte
• a measuring and evaluation unit to measure the modification and to derive, on the basis of the modification, information concerning the presence of the analyte in the body, and
• a heating element and a temperature measuring element are disposed on the optical fiber near a proximal end of the hollow needle,
• wherein the interaction of the light transported in the optical fiber with the interstitial liquid is due to a penetration of an evanescent field into the interstitial liquid surrounding the circumferential surface of the optical fiber.

Analysis device for determining an analyte in vivo in the body of a patient, the device comprising:

• a measuring probe having
• a hollow needle with a measuring section having a length, a partial section of the length being adapted for penetration into the body and in which a wall of the hollow needle is permeable to interstitial liquid surrounding the hollow needle within the body and
• an optical fiber including a measuring section that extends inside the hollow needle in the measuring section thereof and by which light is passed from a light source, the light transported through the optical fiber being modified in the measuring probe by direct reagent free interaction with the interstitial liquid surrounding the measuring section of the optical fiber within the measuring section of the hollow needle, said modification of the light being characteristic of the presence of the analyte and
• a measuring and evaluation unit to measure the modification and to derive, on the basis of the modification, information concerning the presence of the analyte in the body,
• wherein the optical fiber is surrounded, at least in the measuring section, by a coating.
