Abstract
Compounds, isolated from the bacteria Xenorhabdus bovienil, have antineoplastic activity. The invention provides pharmaceutical compositions containing the compounds and the methods for employing them as medicaments, particularly in the treatment of human and animal cancers.

A method of inhibiting the growth of mammalian tumors, comprising administering to a subject in need of such treatment, an effective antineoplastic amount of a compound of the structure shown below,
- wherein R1, R2=hydrogen, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, acyl, aryl, aralkyl, or heterocyclic group;
- R3=hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, aryl or heteocyclic group or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof in association with a pharmaceutical carrier or dilution.
