Abstract
A power transfer assembly is provided with a coplanar gear assembly. The coplanar gear assembly can be utilized in a differential, a multi-speed transmission, a four-wheel drive transfer case, and a fluid pump.
Claims4
A transfer case for a vehicle having each of a two wheel drive mode and a four wheel drive mode comprising:
- a coplanar gearset including a sun gear, an annulus gear, and a cluster gear supported by a carrier and having internal teeth meshed with said sun gear and external teeth meshed with said annulus gear;
- an input shaft driving said carrier and having said sun gear circumferentially disposed about a portion thereof;
- an output shaft driven by said annulus gear;
- and
- a coupling mechanism for selectively coupling said sun gear to one of said input shaft and a stationary member for establishing high and low ratio drive connections between said input shaft and said output shaft.
