Abstract
(Meth)acrylic acid copolymers are used to increase mucosal permeability, comonomers present being (meth)acrylic esters and/or other monomers capable of free-radical polymerization, and the (meth)acrylic acid:comonomer molar ratio varying from 99:1 to 1:99.
Claims8
A method of reversibly increasing the permeability to active agents of epithelial cells in a patient in need thereof which comprises treating said patient with an effective amount of (meth)acrylic acid copolymers by applying a pharmaceutical composition comprising an amount of more than 50% by weigh, based on the weight of the composition, of the (meth)acrylic acid copolymer, and wherein the pharmaceutical composition is applied orally, sublingually, buccally, rectally, pulmonarily or nasally or through the mucosa of the eye.
