Abstract
A spinal marker for use, in spinal surgery for marking a location on at least a portion of two adjacent vertebral bodies is disclosed. The spinal marker includes a shaft with a distal end having at least one dye exit hole and a disc penetrating extension extending from the distal end of the shaft for facilitating the insertion of the marker at least in part between the adjacent vertebral bodies.
Claims59
A spinal marker for marking a location on at least a portion of a spine of a human, said marker comprising:
- a shaft having a proximal end, an opposite distal end oriented toward the spine, a depth between said proximal and distal ends, and a height and a width transverse to the depth of said shaft, said shaft having a passage having a dye receiver at said proximal end of said shaft and at least two dye exit holes on said distal end of said shaft for marking the spine;
- and
- a disc penetrating extension for insertion at least in part between two adjacent vertebral bodies, said disc penetrating extension extending from said distal end of said shaft, said disc penetrating extension having a distal end oriented toward the spine, a proximal end proximate said distal end of said shaft, and a depth therebetween, said disc penetrating extension having a height and a width transverse to the depth of said disc penetrating extension, the height of said disc penetrating extension being sufficient to contact at least a portion of each of the adjacent vertebral bodies.
A spinal marker for marking a location on at least a portion of a spine of a human, said marker comprising:
- a shaft having a proximal end, an opposite distal end oriented toward the spine, a depth between said proximal and distal ends, and a height and a width transverse to the depth of said shaft, said shaft having a passage having a dye receiver at said proximal end of said shaft and at least one dye exit hole on said distal end of said shaft for marking the spine;
- and
- a disc penetrating extension extending from said distal end of said shaft, said disc penetrating extension having a distal end oriented toward the spine, a proximal end proximate said distal end of said shaft, and a depth therebetween, said disc penetrating extension having a height and a width transverse to the depth of said disc penetrating extension, the height of said disc penetrating extension being sufficient to contact at least a portion of each of the adjacent vertebral bodies, the height and width of said disc penetrating extension forming a non-circular cross-section.
A spinal marker for marking a location on at least a portion of a spine of a human, said marker comprising:
- a shaft having a proximal end, an opposite distal end oriented toward the spine, a depth between said proximal and distal ends, and a height and a width transverse to the depth of said shaft, said shaft having a passage having a dye receiver at said proximal end of said shaft and at least one dye exit hole on said distal end of said shaft for marking the spine;
- and
- a disc penetrating extension extending from said distal end of said shaft, said disc penetrating extension having a distal end oriented toward the spine, a proximal end proximate said distal end of said shaft, and a depth therebetween, said disc penetrating extension having a height and a width transverse to the depth of said disc penetrating extension, the height of said disc penetrating extension being sufficient to contact at least a portion of each of the adjacent vertebral bodies.
