Abstract
An electrical connector for transferring a plurality of differential signals between electrical components. The connector is made of modules that have a plurality of pairs of signal conductors with a first signal path and a second signal path. Each signal path has a pair of contact portions, and an interim section extending between the contact portions. For each pair of signal conductors, a first distance between the interim sections is less than a second distance between the pair of signal conductors and any other pair of signal conductors of the plurality. Embodiments are shown that increase routability.
Claims10
An electrical connector for transferring a plurality of differential signals between electrical components, the connector comprising:
- a plurality of pairs of differential signal conductors disposed in parallel columns, each of the differential signal conductors having a contact portion connectable to a printed circuit board, the contact portions of the differential signal conductors also being disposed in parallel columns;
- a plurality of shield plates, each of the plurality of shield plates disposed adjacent one of the parallel columns of differential signal conductors;
- and
- each of the plurality of shield plates having at least one contact portion connectable to the printed circuit board, the contact portion of the shield plate disposed in one of the parallel columns of the contact portions of the differential signal conductors.
An electrical connector system for transferring a plurality of differential signals, the connector system comprising:
- a connector including a plurality of connector modules that are positioned parallel to one another, each connector module comprising:
- a plurality of pairs of differential signal conductors disposed in a column, each of the differential signal conductors having a contact portion connectable to a printed circuit board, the contact portions of the differential signal conductors also being disposed in a column;
- a shield plate disposed adjacent the column of differential signal conductor pairs, the shield plate having at least one contact portion connectable to the printed circuit board;
- the contact portion of the shield plate lying in the column of the contact portions of the differential signal conductors;
- and
- the printed circuit board having openings for receiving the contact portions of the differential signal conductors and the shield plates.
