Method and apparatus for removing wellhead assemblies

A cutting assembly for cutting a well casing comprising:

• a motor mounting device;
• a motor, without an intermediate drilling string extending from a drilling rig to said motor, having a body secured to the motor mounting device and having an output shaft;
• a radially expandable cutter;
• a tubing string connecting the cutter to the output shaft of the motor;
• and means for securing the mounting device adjacent to one of a wellhead and a fixture secured relative to the wellhead, whereby when said mounting device is secured adjacent the fixture, rotary reaction forces from the body of the motor are transmitted to the fixture and axial reaction forces are transmitted from the body of the motor to a radially extending surface of the fixture, and when said mounting device is secured adjacent the wellhead, rotary reaction forces from the body of the motor are transmitted to the wellhead and axial reaction forces are transmitted from the body of the motor to a radially extending surface of the wellhead.

A cutting assembly for cutting a well casing comprising:

• a motor mounting device;
• a motor having a body secured to the motor mounting device and having an output shaft;
• a radially expandable cutter;
• a tubing string connecting the cutter to the output shaft of the motor;
• and
• means for securing the mounting device to a fixture secured relative to the wellhead whereby rotary reaction forces from the mounting device are transmitted to the fixture and axial reaction forces are transmitted from the mounting device to a radially extending surface of the fixture.
