Abstract
A hydrophobic bleaching agent comprising a peroxyacid having a carbon chain of at least 9 carbon atoms is used for the reduction of the activity of micro-organisms that have a cell wall containing high levels of peptidoglycan. Such micro-organisms include yeast and gram positive bacteria.
Claims16
A method of reducing of the activity of micro-organisms containing a cell wall that contains high levels of peptidoglycan, said method comprising the steps of contacting said micro-organisms with an aqueous liquor having a pH greater than 8.5, said liquor comprising a hydrophobic bleaching agent comprising a peroxyacid having a carbon chain of at least 9 carbon atoms.
A method of reducing of the activity of micro-organisms selected from the group consisting of yeast, gram positive bacteria, gram negative bacteria and mixtures thereof, comprising the steps of contacting said micro-organisms with an aqueous liquor having a pH greater than 8.5, said liquor comprising a hydrophobic bleaching agent comprising a peroxyacid having a carbon chain of at least 9 carbon atoms and a hydrophilic bleaching agent.
