Abstract
A fluoropolyether having a nonfunctional silane end group is applied to a magnetic recording medium to form a lubricant topcoat thereon. In an embodiment of the present invention, no less than about 70% of the lubricant applied to the magnetic recording medium forms a bonded topcoat thereto.
Claims17
A magnetic recording medium comprising a lubricant topcoat, wherein the lubricant topcoat comprises a fluoropolyether having a nonfunctional silane end group, wherein the nonfunctional silane end group excludes a Si—X0 bond, wherein X0 is oxygen, halide, nitrogen or cyano.
A method of manufacturing a magnetic recording medium, which method comprises:
- forming a magnetic layer on a non-magnetic substrate;
- and forming a lubricant topcoat on the magnetic layer, wherein the lubricant topcoat comprises a fluoropolyether having a non-functional silane end-group, wherein the nonfunctional silane end group excludes a Si—X0 bond, and wherein X0 is oxygen, halide, nitrogen or cyano.
