Abstract
A process for the resolution of an enantiomeric mixture of β-lactams containing an ester, the process comprising selectively hydrolyzing the ester of one of the enantiomers by combining the mixture with homogenized liver.

A process for the resolution of an enantiomeric mixture of an acyloxy substituted β-lactam, the process comprising combining the enantiomeric mixture with homogenized liver to form a reaction mixture, selectively hydrolyzing the acyloxy substituent of one of the enantiomers in the reaction mixture, and recovering β-lactam having an unhydrolyzed acyloxy substituent from the reaction mixture.
