Abstract

The present invention aims to provide a magnetic recording medium capable of high-density recording with excellent running durability and preservability as well as a magnetic recording medium capable of high-density recording with low noise even at high output and excellent running durability. Disclosed are a magnetic recording medium comprises a magnetic layer containing a ferromagnetic powder and a binder provided on a nonmagnetic flexible substrate and a magnetic recording medium comprising a nonmagnetic layer containing a nonmagnetic powder and a binder and a magnetic layer containing a ferromagnetic powder and a binder provided in this order on a nonmagnetic flexible substrate. Provided that said magnetic layer contains a zirconia powder having an average primary particle diameter of 0.005-0.2 μm, or said magnetic layer has an average thickness in the range of 0.04-0.3 μm, said ferromagnetic powder is a metal alloy powder having a as of 130 A.m2/kg or more, and said magnetic layer contains a granulated powder having an average primary particle diameter of 0.005-0.2 μm and a specific gravity of 5 or more.
