Powder driven fastener setting tool

A powder driven fastener setting tool comprising:

• a magazine channel for engaging a magazine strip having a plurality of explosive cartridges;
• a lever cam rigidly coupled to a sleeve of the tool, the lever cam being movable between first and second positions;
• an indexing lever pivotally coupled to the tool;
• wherein the lever cam and the indexing lever are separate parts;
• an engagement portion of the indexing lever extending into the magazine channel for indexing the magazine strip;
• a cam follower portion of the indexing lever cammingly engaged with the lever cam as the lever cam moves between the first and second positions.

In a powder actuated fastener setting tool having a magazine strip of explosive cartridges fed through a channel to a firing chamber between a breech end of a barrel and a breech block, the tool triggered by a firing mechanism having a spring biased sleeve movable between first and second positions, the improvement comprising:

• a lever cam rigidly coupled to the sleeve and movable therewith between first and second positions;
• an indexing lever pivotally coupled to the tool;
• wherein the lever cam and the indexing lever are separate parts;
• a ratcheting magazine engagement portion of the indexing lever extending into the channel for indexing the magazine strip;
• a cam follower portion of the indexing lever cammingly engaged with the lever cam as it moves between the first and second positions;
• the magazine engagement portion of the indexing lever located in a first position in the channel when the lever cam is in the first position;
• the magazine engagement portion of the indexing lever located in a second position in the channel when the lever cam is in the second position;
• and
• whereby the ratcheting magazine engagement portion of the indexing lever indexes the magazine strip of explosive cartridges through the channel as it moves between positions.
