Abstract
An outer gripping portion of a bicycle handlebar includes a mounting section and a bracket section. The mounting section has a first cross-sectional shape. The bracket section has a second cross-sectional shape and is releasably coupled to the mounting section to form a first gripping section. The first and second cross-sectional shapes of the mounting section and the bracket section have flush longitudinal edges that mate together to form a first annular gripping surface of the first gripping section. Preferably, the bicycle handlebar includes a pair of outer gripping portions coupled to opposite ends of a transverse portion.
Claims26
An outer gripping portion of a bicycle handlebar comprising:
- a mounting section having a first length and a first substantially semi-circular cross-sectional shape along said first length;
- and
- a bracket section having a second length and a second substantially semi-circular cross-sectional shape along said second length, said bracket section being releasably coupled to said mounting section to form a first gripping section,
- said first and second cross-sectional shapes of said mounting section and said bracket section having flush longitudinal edges that mate together to form a substantially circular first annular gripping surface of said first gripping section along said first and second lengths of said mounting section and said bracket section.
An outer gripping portion of a bicycle handlebar comprising:
- a mounting section having a first cross-sectional shape;
- a bracket section with a second cross-sectional shape releasably coupled to said mounting section to form a first gripping section,
- said first and second cross-sectional shapes of said mounting section and said bracket section having flush longitudinal edges that mate together to form a first annular gripping surface of said first gripping section;
- and
- a transverse portion coupled to said mounting section via an attachment section,
- said transverse portion having a non-circular cross-section with a first dimension measured in a direction parallel to a mid-plane and a second dimension smaller than said first dimension.
An outer gripping portion of a bicycle handlebar comprising:
- a mounting section having a first cross-sectional shape;
- a bracket section with a second cross-sectional shape releasably coupled to said mounting section to form a first gripping section,
- said first and second cross-sectional shapes of said mounting section and said bracket section having flush longitudinal edges that mate together to form a first annular gripping surface of said first gripping section;
- and
- a transverse portion coupled to said mounting section via an attachment section,
- said transverse portion having a center vertical plane and said first gripping section having a central longitudinal axis angled between approximately 25° and approximately 35° relative to said center vertical plane.
A bicycle handlebar comprising:
- a transverse portion having a first end, a second end and a mounting part therebetween;
- a first outer gripping portion coupled to said first end of said transverse portion, said first outer gripping portion including a first mounting section with a first length and a first substantially semi-circular cross-sectional shape along said first length, and a first bracket section with a second length and a second substantially semi-circular cross-sectional shape along said second length, said first bracket section being releasably coupled to said first mounting section to form a first gripping section, said first and second cross-sectional shapes of said first mounting section and said first bracket section having flush longitudinal edges that mate together to form a substantially circular first annular gripping surface of said first gripping section along said first and second lengths of said first mounting section and said first bracket section;
- and
- a second outer gripping portion coupled to said second end of said transverse portion.
An outer gripping portion of a bicycle handlebar comprising:
- an attachment section having a center longitudinal axis;
- a first gripping section extending from said attachment section, said first gripping section having a first central longitudinal axis forming a first angle larger than 90° with said center longitudinal axis of said attachment section and a control lever pivotally coupled thereto;
- and
- a second gripping section extending from said attachment section, said second gripping section having a second central longitudinal axis forming a second angle smaller than 90° with said center longitudinal axis of said attachment section,
- said first and second gripping sections extending in opposite directions from said attachment section to form a substantially T-shaped outer gripping portion, said control lever extending generally adjacent to at least part of said first gripping section and at least a part of said second gripping section to be user operable from both said first gripping section and said second gripping section.
An outer gripping portion of a bicycle handlebar comprising:
- an attachment section having a mounting end and a gripping end with center longitudinal axis extending between said mounting end and said gripping end;
- a first gripping section extending outwardly from said gripping end of said attachment section, said first gripping section having a first central longitudinal axis forming a first angle larger than 90° with said center longitudinal axis of said attachment section;
- and
- a second gripping section extending outwardly from said gripping end of said attachment section, said second gripping section having a second central longitudinal axis forming a second angle smaller than 90° with said center longitudinal axis of said attachment section,
- said first and second gripping sections extending in opposite directions from said gripping end of said attachment section to form an angle greater than approximately 135° and less than approximately 180° between said first and second central longitudinal axes, said center longitudinal axis and said first and second central longitudinal axes all intersecting at a common area formed at said gripping end.
